History. The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology was born in 1943 with the founding of Southwestern Medical College by a group of civic leaders and former faculty from Baylor University College of Medicine in Dallas. We had one faculty member, the chair, and a part-time secretary. Today as in 1943 a sense of community and family pervades.Dr. Ian Cook completed a fellowship at the University of Virginia Health System. He earned his medical degree from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine and completed his residency at the University of Kentucky.
