The parent spread appears in the document window. Make changes to the parent. InDesign automatically updates any pages using that parent. It's easy enough to number the 39th page (and following) as p.38 -- just go to the Pages Panel, select that page and choose Numbering and Section Options, and declare that this section begins as p.38.
