Access paratransit
Paratransit (the term used in North America) or Intermediate Public Transport ( also known by other names such as community transport ( UK )), is a type of transportation services that supplement fixed-route mass transit by providing individualized rides without fixed routes or timetables. [1] ACCESS is a coordinated, shared-ride paratransit service, which has been providing door-to-door, advanced reservation transportation in Allegheny County since 1979. This unique public-private partnership leverages eleven separate federal and state funding sources to create an affordable mobility option for riders. Staff is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Trip reservations can be made from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. You must call one to two days in advance to reserve your trips. When reserving a trip to or from Nassau or Westchester counties, the reservationist will inform you if the location is within the three-quarter mile service area.
